Tone Deaf Challenge

This week’s Impossible Songs are going to be similar to last week.  You’ll need to figure out the three songs and use the first letters of the titles and artists to decipher a code.  Once you get the code, you can get into the Impossible Song post and leave a comment.  The first commenter will get the ‘Song Swapper’ chip for the 5th.

There’s a twist:  Instead of 3 separate files, I’ve combined them all into 1 big file.  The good news is that it’s not backwards.  That would’ve been way too tough.  Figure out the 3 titles and artists and you’re golden.

Just a hint for when I do post it… The biggest letters go in the middle of the password.  The two smallest letters go to the left.  (A = small, Z=big)

PS.  I tried to get this on the website for halftime.  Sorry about it being during the Steelers game!

I know most of you probably do it.  You don’t have to admit it, but we all know it’s true.  You download music from one of those file-sharing sites.  Now, if you want to download ‘legally,’ you can do it right here from the Tone Deaf Challenge site. 

On the sidebar, you’ll see a box.  If you’re using Internet Explorer, odds are you’re not seeing anything there.  I’m not sure why, but I’m trying to get that fixed.  If you have Firefox, odds are you’re seeing a nice music player with the top songs in it.

I’ve set up an account through Amazon.com and we earn a percentage of all sales.  Right now, I’m going with the music player, but I may expand it to other items.

Just remember, it’s better to ‘own’ the song than to ‘kinda own’ the song, if you catch my drift.  Just think about that.  Ya, I’m talking to you.  Now go buy a song or CD from Amazon… just make sure you click through that box to the right.

Why not start by downloading the new ‘Snow Patrol’ CD for only $3.99.  That’s a heck of a deal. I just downloaded it about 2 hours ago. I’d tell you how it is, but I haven’t listened yet. Check it out if you’re inclined!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of October.  With that being said, we’re having our annual Halloween Editon of the Tone Deaf Challenge…

Here’s what you need to know:

1. If someone on your team comes dressed up for the game, your team will get 5 bonus points.  If the whole team comes dressed up, you’ll get 10 bonus points for the game.
2. The lightning round theme for the night is… “Things people might be afraid of!”
3. Finally, I’m also giving 5 bonus points if you RSVP here on the website.  Just leave a comment with your team name and you’ll get your points.  Please only RSVP if you are going to be there!  I do this so that I have an idea of how many teams I’m going to have ‘for sure.’

This is going to be played a little differently this week (mainly because I’m bored)!

I still have 3 Impossible Songs, but they’re all going to be placed in this post.  Your job is to take the first letter of each of the titles and artists and use them to crack the code on the Locked Impossible Song post.  The first one to use all 6 letters to crack the code and post a comment on the post will win the Song Swapper chip for this week.  Keep reading for more details.

I’ve never been a huge fan of SNL (I do like it though), but these Thursday Night Updates are great.  Enjoy this clip that you can find on Hulu.com.

Ok, so not that I think this is going to work… I added a sidebar widget that allows anyone to chip in for the purchase of Buzzers for the Tone Deaf Challenge.  The ChipIn widget goes through Paypal, so it is fast and secure.

All you have to do, if you want to, is click on the ‘ChipIn’ button at the bottom of the widget.  That’ll take you to paypal.  Fill in the paypal information and you’re good to go.

It was a pretty exciting night at the Tone Deaf Challenge (well, not really, but it was okay).  Anyway, we started the new ‘randomize the team order after each round’ portion of the game.  That’s going to take a little more work on my part juggling the scorescards, but it seemed to work.  What did you guys think about it?  Let me know in the comments.

We also tried to do the ‘start one minute into the song’ thing.  That DIDN’T work.  That is officially dead.

Also, I decided tonight that the song swapper chip can only be used once in the game.  Once it’s used, it won’t be redistributed to another team.  It’s just too complicated to explain who gets it next.  So, to keep my sanity and all of you off of my back if I make a mistake, I’m eliminating the chance for the mistake!

Be sure to check the scores by clicking on the ‘Scores’ tab on the top of the page.  They have been updated to include the 5 points for the two teams who left a comment saying they were there last week plus the scores from this week.  You can still get your 5 points for being there on October 15th.  Just leave a comment on this post and I’ll apply your 5 points next time I update the scores (probably next week).  With two weeks left before the season finale, Lotion is in the lead by 40 points, but keep in mind that a 40 point lead isn’t much going into the championship.  If you’ve played the championship before, you know that all of the songs in ‘The Comeback’ are worth 20 points instead of 10.

I do want to give big props to Tell Me When You’re Close’s superstar!  She is a master at ‘The Comeback.’  Two weeks ago, she swept the round and just this week, she came so close, but lost on the last song!  Nice work, little lady!  (I don’t know why I, but I decided I was feeling a little western with the ‘little lady’ right there!)
