Impossible Song (July 2, 2008)

Now… Normally, you take the title and artist to the Tone Deaf Challenge.  That’s not what we’re doing this time.  This Impossible Song is for CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS!  Only the first team with the right answer will get the 10 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS!  I think this one is a lot tougher than normal with it being distorted and reversed.  This will be the last C-Point opportunity for this season, so I’m making it really tough.

To give your answer, leave a comment with your team name, the title of this song, and the original artist.  Whoever gets it first gets 10 CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS.

edit:  It’s been a day since this has been loaded and nobody’s guessed yet.  From this point on, I’ll be adding clues to help you.  The first clue is loaded and another clue will come later.

Clue #1: The song wasn’t this band’s best or most popular.  In fact, it peaked at only #86 on the Hot 100 Charts in the year it was released… 1989.  And honestly… I don’t even think I would have known it if it were played forward.

Clue #2: The song (actually, the version you’re hearing here) is being covered by the band Motion City Soundtrack.

I won’t be there this week, but I’ll be posting a new blog post for this week’s game.  To get 10 more points, all you have to do is leave a comment with your final score from July 2nd’s game.

Good Luck!

TDC Season Update…

Well, my schedule at work has changed again and because of that, we’ll have to change things up a bit.  Here’s what we’re expecting the rest of the season (only minor changes)…

June 25 – Week #9

July 2 – Week #10 – Similar to a couple of weeks ago when I wasn’t there, you’ll have to give me your score by leaving a comment.  If you do, you’ll get 10 big points for attending the game!  Here’s the thing… you have to get your scores posted by Friday at 3 PM.  I’ll be setting up the final scores for the season then.

July 9 – Season 3 Championship Game - I don’t think I’m going to start this early, but keep watching for details!

After that, the next season probably won’t happen until September.  We’ll still be doing the TDC every week, but it’ll be a normal game, instead of being worth season points.  My month of August is ridiculously busy and I won’t be there for most of the weeks.  Look for a few new things coming in September, though.  (No, I don’t know what they are yet!)

Finally, the Impossible Song will be up a little later.  Hang tight and keep checking back!

Updated Scores (June 19, 2008)

Alrighty then… Scores are updated and it’s a tight race at the top.  Two teams have 85 points for the championship and one has 80 points.  That’s the way it should be.

Click on SCORES for the complete list.  If there’s anything wrong, don’t flip out… just leave a comment on this page.  I think I took care of the bonus points from when we were off.  You’ll see those on the right-hand side of the scorecard.  The 5 points for going to last week’s game are in the column for June 11th.  I only credited those teams who I knew attended.  If you were at the game on June 11th, make sure you leave a comment with your score to let me know you were there.

Also, be sure to check back this week for another Impossible Song.  Last week’s was Jimmy Eat World’s song ‘The Middle.’  I’m not sure when I’ll post the new one… just keep checking.

Finally, just a clarification… Any gift certificate won at the North Park Clubhouse cannot be used for alcohol.  They can only be used for food.  Also, please we’ve been asked that you try to use them within a few weeks of getting them.  That one comes from management.  Thanks for your understanding.

Impossible Song (June 18, 2008)

Ya.  How about that.  We’ve got bonus points up for grabs for Wednesday’s game.  I know… I know… It’s been a while.  Anyway, you know the drill.  Bring the title and artist of this squirrelly, reversed song to the Tone Deaf Challenge on Wednesday night and if you’re right, I’ll give you 10 bonus points for the game.

By the way… are you going to be at the game Wednesday night?  If so, let me know by leaving a comment!

CD Releases (Week of June 17, 2008)

I was on vacation last week, so I didn’t get to this.  Last week wasn’t a big week, though.  This week is a little bigger.  First, we have the new Coldplay CD, ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friend,’ coming out.  We also have a new Offspring CD, ‘Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.’  That’s pretty good news, right?

Speaking of Coldplay, I heard something on my way home from Virginia Beach yesterday that was pretty cool.  I heard a version of the song ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ with Coldplay.  It didn’t sound too different because the lead singer of The Verve was still singing, but it sounded good.  I’m sure they’ll play it again over the next couple of days on Alt Nation, which is Channel 21 on Sirius.  They’re doing something called ‘Coldplay Nation’ for the next week or so.  They’re playing songs from Coldplay’s new CD and other songs that inspired the band.  Basically, they’re touting it as ‘Coldplay is in control.’  They’re also broadcasting a concert on BBC Radio (Channel 11) on Monday at 7 PM ET.

TDC Schedule Update…

Well, it’s 1:00 right now on Tuesday morning.  I just finished watching the Penguins game that went into triple overtime.  THEY WON!  Freakin’ fantastic!

What does that mean to you?  Well, it means that the Tone Deaf Challenge will be canceled again this week.  Again, THERE WILL BE NO TONE DEAF CHALLENGE ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4TH!

Just another note… I won’t be there the following week, but there’ll still be a game.  There won’t be 15 or 10 points, however, every team who attends will get 5 Championship points.  To get your points, you’ll have to post your team’s score as a comment.  I’ll start a post for that for next week!

Until then… GO PENS!

CD Releases (Week of June 3, 2008)

The Tone Deaf Challenge is all about music.  Here’s some stuff to check out this week…

One song that I like is a song called ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ by ‘The Wombats.’  For some reason, the song reminds me of the theme song for ‘The Muppets.’  That’s not taking anything away from the song as I find myself tapping my toes along to it every time I hear it.  If you get a chance, it’s definitely worth checking out.

I also picked up the new ‘Flobots’ CD at Circuit City last week for $6.99.  The CD, ‘Fight With Tools’ is alright and kinda political, but it just didn’t do much for me.  I liked the lyrics but the songs just aren’t catchy.  The only one that was really catchy was ‘Handlebars.’  It goes something like this…

I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars

To be honest, I didn’t even make it completely through the CD.  I found myself clicking my car radio back over to Sirius 21 – Alt Nation.

That’s all for this week.  Here’s the link for a list of new music for the coming week…  Click here!
