RSVP for August 11, 2010

Alright everyone… this week, we’re trying something new to get your RSVP points.

To get your points, send a text message to TDC-510-TONE  … that’s 832-510-8663.  Make sure you put your team name.

Because this is just the testing phase of this new number, also leave your team name below in the comments section.

If this works, I’ll be using this to accept answers for the bonus rounds instead of running your sheets up to the front.  We’ll hopefully save some trees.

RSVP for July 14, 2010

Since I’m already giving bonus points away for the Impossible Song, the RSVP is now worth 5 points.  That means, if you’re one of the first teams to get the Impossible Song, you’ll go into the game with 15 points.

Leave your team name here for your bonus!

Another big change is coming to the end of the game.  This could make things interesting.  Details later.

We’re also going to introduce a new space onto the Radio Roulette board.  It’s called ‘Let It Ride.’  It’ll work like this.  If you land on the space, you get to pick the decade.  If you get your title and artist right, you’ll get 25 points.  You can keep it or ‘let it ride’ and go for another song.  The next song will be from a decade picked by the team ahead of you (team on deck).  If you ‘let it ride,’ you’ll play for 35 points.  You can do that one more time with a song from the decade picked by the team ahead of them (team in the hole).  Get all 3 songs (title and artist) and you get 45 points.  If you choose to let it ride and you miss title or artist, you get no points.

We’ll try it and see how it goes.  If we like it, great.  If not, we can tweak it.  This idea comes from Jeremy.  Thanks, Jer!

Last bit of news is that the bridge IS NOT CLOSED as we mentioned it would be.  They postponed the construction to next week.  No need to detour this week.

Scores Updated and Tonight’s Details

I’ve just updated the scores for Season 9 and wow is it close.  Here’s how tonight is going to work to make it fair…

The top team tonight will get an automatic bye into the Final FaceOff.  They’ll get their base time of 1 minute plus whatever they have banked for the season.  For example: Trock, who is in the lead right now, would get 60 seconds + their banked 24.5 seconds (rounded to 25 because my countdown software doesn’t do half seconds).  They would get 1:25 on their clock.

Then, the top 2 remaining teams on the season standings will battle for the second spot in the Final FaceOff.  They will get their base time of 55 seconds + their banked time from the season.

This gives any teams who show up tonight a chance to win but they will be at a serious disadvantage because they haven’t banked any time for the season.

The team who wins the Final FaceOff will be Season 9 Champions!

If this doesn’t make sense, ask me!

On a side note… the lightning round category tonight is a hit.  I bat you’ll like it.

One more note… the lyrics in the radio roulette round are gone and replaced with questions with multiple answers.  Each answer will be worth 5 points.

Tonight’s Lightning Rounds

In honor of the Olympics, we’re doing Canadian Artists again for the lightning rounds.

We’ll also go back to the normal Comeback round with a slight change.  If we do it twice, we will reset after each team gets through once.  That will keep teams from dominating because of The Comeback.

Scores, Finally and Championship Night!

Okay.  So, it’s been a rough week around here.  I had a death in the family and really wanted to get to this sooner.  I didn’t.

Either way, they were done.  I finished the scores a week ago, but ran out of time to put them online.

After a long wait, here they are…

1st Place: 3 Seconds
2nd Place: 2.5 Seconds
3rd Place: 2 Seconds
All Other Finishers: 1 Second

Season 8 Scores

Now, here’s how the finale is going to work…

It’s called ‘The Face Off.’

The 4 teams with the most accrued time will face off in a single-elimination tournament.  1 plays 4.  2 plays 3.  The winners will play each other.

Each team will have their accrued time plus 30 seconds placed on their clock. (ex: Don’t Stop Me Now would have 1:02 on the clock as of right now.)  They will also have 3 of their players.

We’ll alternate songs between teams starting with the lower seed.  Once we hear the song start playing, the clock for that team will start.  Once they give me a title, it will stop.  Play will pass to the other team and another song will play.  Their clock will start.

We’ll repeat the process until one team’s clock hits zero.  They are out.

In the event that a team doesn’t know a song, there will be a 15-second time limit.  Once 15 seconds have expired, we’ll move on to the next song and team.

There’s also one pass allowed per team (per round).  This will pass the current song to the other team.  They can, if they have a pass left, pass it right back.  The 15-second time limit starts at the point of the pass or pass back.

The winning team from the 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 rounds will bank their time for the final championship round.  That time will also get a 30 second pad.

One side note: The songs have all been played in the game before.  There are 100 total songs from different decades and they have been randomly shuffled by my music program.

Make sense?  God, I hope so.  Ha.

I’ll see everyone tonight.  I’m looking forward to it.

RSVP for August 5, 2009

Well… I’ve finally decided to start a new season.  This season will change the game a bit.

The new game will consist of 5 rounds instead of 4 rounds with the first being an oldies speed round.  There will be no steals in the oldies.  Oldies will still be 50s, 60s, or 70s.

Then we’ll do the 80s round, 90s round, and current music round.

When we’re done with that, we’re going to try something new called the ‘Sellout’ round.

Here’s how that will work… There will be 3 categories split as evenly as possible based on the number of teams.  We’ll start with the team in last place.  That team will come up and pick a category.  We’ll continue up the list of teams with each picking a category.  The first category to run out of cards is the first one to sell out.  That category will be worth 10 for the title and artist with a 5 point bonus for both.

The next category to sell out will be worth 15 for title and artist with a 5 point bonus for both.

The last category remaining will be worth 20 for title and artist with a 5 point bonus for both.

We’re going to try this for the next couple of weeks and see how it goes.  It may need tweaked each week, but we won’t know if it’ll work unless we try it in a game situation.

The order for that round will be randomized once teams have picked their categories.

This week’s categories will be:

CURRENT ALTERNATIVE

90S ROCK

80S 1-HIT WONDERS

Be patient through the first couple of weeks of this, please!

Oh, and by the way… if you leave a comment on this post with your team name, you’ll get a 10-point bonus for this week.

Possible Rule Change

Nick from Puppy Humpers / Lotion in the Basket brought up a good point last Wednesday and after thinking it through for about a week, I think we’re going to try it.

For this week (and maybe other weeks beyond this week, we’ll see), we’ll be trying a new scoring system.  The points will remain the same if your team is up.  However, if you have a chance to steal, the points will be slashed.

Team That’s Up:  Title (10 pts), Artist (10 pts), Both (25 pts)

Teams That Are Stealing:  Title (5 pts), Artist (5 pts), Both (15 pts)

Like I said, we’ll try it this week.  We’ll see how it goes.  I’ll make a final decision in a couple of weeks.

So, what do you think about this change?  Is it a good one or will it make things too confusing?  Sound off by leaving a comment.  I want to hear what you have to say.
