Tone Deaf Challenge

The Tone Deaf Challenge is a music trivia game that’s played every Wednesday night at the Brothers Grimm, in Robinson Township near the YMCA.  The game starts at 8:30 PM and lasts approximately 2 hours. (Except when there’s a Penguins game… it’ll start immediately after the game!)

We cover all genres and decades of music from the oldies to 80s to 90s to current music.

In each round, we play you music and your team gets to guess the title and artist.  There are a few other twists along the way, too.

5 points can mean the different between first place and second place or the difference between worst and not worst.  It won’t however, help you grill your bratwurst.  (Lame, I know.)

I’ll give you guys more clues if nobody gets it.

Remember, head over to the ‘ENTER PASSWORDS’ page and type the title of the song in with ALL CAPS and no spaces or punctuation.

CLUE 1: Disney paid $5,000 to use this song at one of their attractions.

CLUE 2: This song will become ‘public domain’ in 2030.

CLUE 3: Na… not yet.  We’re gonna have a good time  with this.

Oh, and did I mention that you’ll only get 3 guesses from each computer you use.  Guess carefully.

The Impossible Song / Band / Artist / Math Problem is now going to earn you bonus points instead of the song swapper chip.  I’ll be distributing that out during the TV Themes.  More on that later.

Here are your clues.  I’ll add more if nobody gets it:

1. The Beach Boys sang about this and now there’s another song about it.  It’s perfect for summertime, too.  It’s just swell.

2. The artist of the song is a musical instrument that gets banged.

3. They shout the name of a political figure a bunch of times during the song.  You need to enter that name as your password.

4. What they shout might not actually be the name of the person but it sure as heck sounds like it.  Use your imagination if you don’t get it right away.

Hey guys… I don’t always do this, but I figured I would today.

The bonus round category for this AND next week will be British Invasion.  I’m gonna warn you, though… there are a lot more British bands other than The Beatles.  Bonus rounds aren’t meant to be easy all the time, either.

You know how much I like to change things up.  This week brings another change to the end of the game and a change to the way we award the song swapper chip.

First, let me tell you about the new end game.  I’m changing it because it seems like all we are doing is raising our hands instantly.  The new game is called ‘Risk It All’ and follows the same thinking as Final Jeopardy.

Our top 3 teams make it into this round.  Here’s how it’ll work (tentatively). Each team will send one member up. They will get a category and can wager up to 50 points. If they get it right, the points are added to their score. If they don’t, they’re subtracted. Then, a different player comes up for song 2.  For the 2nd song, you can wager up to 100 points.  Finally, a 3rd player will come up for the final song.  You can risk it all on the final song.  The team with the most points will be the winner.

This may need tweaking. I’ll do that if necessary.

As for the song swapper, it is now only for one team per night.  It will be randomly placed behind a TV theme number.  The chip can be used for any decade or radio roulette.

Let’s see how these changes work.
